May 2008 Archives

I picked up a Blu-ray copy of Michael Clayton over the weekend.  I had heard a few good things about it but I was surprised at how good the movie was.  I won't spoil it for you but if you haven't seen it, I recommend getting it.

I was a bit disappointed with user interface of the disc menu.  It was as if a bad web designer made the disc menu.  Check boxes?  The separation between the options was really tough to make out and there was really way too much text.  I think sticking with simple (and large) buttons is the way to go.  Just because there's a Java runtime the BD players doesn't mean we need to be recreating a computer experience... please.

SF Half Marathon

All coding and no play makes Mike a doughy boy.  After running Bay to Breakers this weekend, I realized I needed to get on the road running some more.  So, I registered for the first half of the SF Marathon in August.  There's no better incentive than forking over $80 in race registration fees (yeah, yeah, healthy living yada yada... funny how money is the bigger incentive).
EngadgetHD has an article about the recent announcement regarding Sun Microsystem's support for the BDLive.com platform.  We've been working with Sun for some time now and it's great to have them supporting our development efforts.

The Engadget guys didn't notice me but I was up there on stage with Jeet and Zane too!  Ok, I was hiding behind the computers making it all work... really, I swear.  You can check it out in the video at about the 26:00 minute mark:

We Launched BDLive.com

It's been a while since I've posted... I've been really busy.  In preparation for the JavaOne conference held earlier this month we launched a developer sign-up form on BDLive.com.  This is just a very small sampling of what we have in store over the coming months but I encourage any developer interested in Blu-ray and BD-J development to sign up for our developer disc.

Here's a Java Minute featuring yours truely talking about Blu-ray and BD Live.
